How To Keep Your House Warm In Winter:

There’s growing concern about the price rises from energy companies in the US. With this in mind, we decided to explore some alternatives to heating your home other than using heaters — in this blog piece we’re giving you some ways to keep the cold out this winter which often go unnoticed.

Thick curtains. Good curtains are actually one of the main ways to protect your house from losing heat through the windows, if possible, get some thick curtains with a thermal lining – the thicker the better.
Double glazing. As householders, we are often advised to install double glazing to insulate our homes so this might seem quite obvious, good! They are a perfect way to reduce energy bills and combat the cold in the winter, and a long term solution.
Shut up unused rooms. Keeping certain doors in the house closed will prevent the cold air from flowing freely into the rest of the house.
Cover bare floorboards. The National Energy Foundation (NEF) state that floors account for 10% of heat loss if not insulated. Use rugs, carpets or filler for your wooden floors. That is all.
Roof Insulation. Insulate your room and save further on heating bills. There are different ways to do this, but using spray foam is perhaps the best way.
Upgrade your boiler. Last but certainly not least, if your boiler is more than a decade old, it might be time to replace it with a newer model.

  After our 110 year old farm house was damaged by a tornado I contacted Alex with Emberstone.  He came out quickly to look at our two damaged chimneys one of which was completely down to the roofline.  Knowing that our roof could not be repaired until the chimneys where, he and his crew came on a weekend to do the repairs as soon as possible.  Not only did they complete both in one day the work they did was superb.  I have over 30 years experience in construction inspections and this company is top notch.   Emberstone came out and did my dryer vent cleaning + chimney inspection and sweep service, I was so surprised that they cover all of the raleigh/durham, nc area and yet were able to give me a prompt appointment date and show up to do an on-site quote in a very short amount of time. The chimney inspection technician seemed knowledgeable and the dryer vent cleaning guy really loves his job, having so much fun while maintaining a much welcomed professionalism you don't see often with service providers these days.   Before a few months ago I’d never lived anywhere with a fireplace. Deciding to be on the safe side in my new home I scheduled to have a Emberstone come out to inspect and possibly sweep my chimney. When I called to schedule the appointment the gal I spoke with was very pleasant and informative, giving me fees and letting me know what to expect. Today Alex came out for the appointment. He called before he arrived and arrived within the scheduled window. He was professional, courteous, and also very informative.
